"Mexico Madness" Activity

Mexican DancersSaturday, March 20th at 12:30.

This activity is for children in grades K - 5.   Come make a pinata, and enjoy stories, games, food and more.  Registration is required.

Facebook Class

   Facebook people      March 12th & 19th from 4:00-5:00pm. 

 Come and learn all of the many ways you can use Facebook in your life in this two part class.  The second session deals with safety issues using Facebook.

Facebook is a social networking website where users can find friends, send messages and update their personal profiles.  Facebook can also be used for professional or business networking and is now a searching tool.

Homemade Quilt Raffle

Homemade quiltThe Sheridan Historical Committee is raising funds for the Historical Preservation Grant. Donations are $1.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00.  Raffle tickets can be purchased from the Sheridan Historical Committee or at the Robert W. Rowe Public Library.  The winning ticket will be drawn on July 4th during the town's celebration.  Winner need not be present to win.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to purchase materials needed for the safeguarding of local history documents.

Local History Project

The Robert Rowe Public Library is applying for a Historical Records Preservation Grant.  Our vision is to preserve, access, and use our local history.  We plan to purchase equipment and archival products that will preserve historical maps, obituaries, and other history to a new electronic format which can be used by the public.  This grant is a "matching funds" grant.  Every dollar raised will be matched by grant funds.

There is an exciting announcement at the Robert W. Rowe Library. We have developed another book club, one that will focus on contemporary popular fiction and non-fiction titles. The next WATTS book discussion will take place on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 from 7 to 8pm here at the library. This new book club is open to all adults who enjoy engaging in stimulating conversations about books and exchange perspectives about characters, plots and authors. 

Copies will be available for checkout at the Robert W. Rowe library. For more information call the library at 815-496-2031.

General Philip Sheridan

Library Director accepting a portrait of Gen. Philip Sheridan from the artist.

A portrait of General Philip Sheridan was recently donated to the library.  General Sheridan was a Civil War general for which the village is named.  the portrait was painted by Shane Ward and donated to the library by James Ward.  the painting hangs in the library's Community Room.

New look for the PrairieCat Library Catalog!

The PrairieCat Library Catalog has a new look.  The new features include:

  • book jackets, annotations, excerpts and book reviews
  • improved searching for more relevant results.
  • a "word cloud" providing links to related terms
  • "My Discoveries" section that allows you to create lists of your own to remember what you have read or want to read. 

 Just click on "Catalog" in the menu above to see changes.
